Yes edinburgh is a very small place it could fit into Glasgows west end,im from edburgh,and i still choose Glasgow over eburgh for shopping and buzz oh and the Glasgow subway is much more superior,now just heard Glasgow will have trams again.oh dear.

Oh, thanks for the link! I was quite amazed by Ana’s work, so I’ve encoded and torrented all the films I could find. Tomislav Medak had high-quality sources for them (thanks!), so I’ve encoded The Market (Croatian with and without subs) and Lunch (Croatian, English and German) and put them on The Pirate Bay: http://thepiratebay.org/search/ana%20%20husman/0/99/0

I think The Market is fantastic as well, it gives you a view into Croatian society and traditions (look at all the pickling and preserving going on in stop motion!) as well as a notion of how this might all slowly be destroyed, hearing the old market women talk about big supermarket chains and globalization. And all in just a few minutes. She’s really good at capturing atmospheres

Indeed, and one must also question the value of a pre-determined response to an unforeseen threat.

Regarding the next election, I can’t really imagine the Tories actually dropping Trident, so it’s difficult to see how a viable coalition could be mustered against it.

I was unaware of this subtlety of the UK’s nuclear deterrent. There’s something rather in the English military tradition for “over the top drama” in it – Tom Clancy meets Gilbert and Sullivan.

Anyway – this once again underscores the absurdity (not only of the overall nuclear weapon situation) but the specific case of the UK. Not only is there uncertainty over whether the UK has exclusive control of the launching of these weapons (sans US codes and satellites ergo US permission) – but there is uncertainty as to if there would even be a retaliatory strike.

I hope someone has the bottle to make this an issue at the next election. The cost for running trident (the real hidden cost) makes it an issue economically at least.

The one thing that’s been frustrating me (not about Jabber/XMPP, but about closed-source IM) is an inability to get the Openfire server I use to federate with the BlackBerries my co-workers and I use at work: http://jasonsalas.com/2009/01/federation-frustration.html

Third-party apps installed on the BBs can interop with XMPP servers, but not the other way around. I’m trying to figure out why.
